When will this recession end?
It depends on where you live.
Recession is a term conviniently coined for those who are/were affluent, has a means of subsistence, and not for those who think luxury is a quarter glass of milk once a day. A certain portion in the African countries, a sizeable figure in South East Asia, and certainly a growing number in the middle east has never had a chance to dream about basic necessities, let alone think about a recession.
But, zooming into the land masses on each side of the atlantic, there appears to be a visible rise in the readings on the frustration index. People are suffering. Why ? Not because they are worse than many other millions in the world, but they are fighting hard to settle down for something less than what they have been having their whole life.
The other day I was speaking to a friend of mine. She had had a lot of hurdles in her life, the sort of things that an average person would rarely experience in their whole life perhaps, but she has been handling everything quite adeptly somehow, or so I felt. Like a burning lamp, shining gloriosly, but burning within, she was never shy of spreading an extra dose of charisma and charm . But, to my surprise, she was holding a much bigger inferno within, in comparison to a small burning lamp, that I had imagined. Sure, life is not always fair, but you dont have to make it worse, i felt. In addition to the pan american phenomenon of a collapse of economic models or a Keynesian prediction of a plumetting financial table, and facing the grim realities of few of the most torturous experience, she was inflicting herself with her own set of ‘idiosyncratic’ rules and prejudices. I would deem myself a failure, if my intent were to let her go of her weakeniing rules and values. But, personally, I found out that the cultivated ethos of individuals form the chasis of life on which we can build a successful life.
I always have been an optimist. Although I like cribbing and partying with the whiners, I still believe that wherever we are, however we are, as long as we can breath, see or even feel, there is always something to be grateful for. And as long as you are grateful for something, why bother worrying about your future or crying about a past. Might as well realise the love and affection of dear ones, beauty around yourself, or be bold to face whatever comes. After all, what man is man who doesnt make the world a better place. And a smile could do a lot to that idea than a grimace.
I keep reminding myself every day morning, to think about five things I am grateful for in life, then think about five things that I am worried about, then realise that all these were created by the one force, that which knows everything, and permeates everything, and wouldnt let me wither away until I choose to. So, here my friends, let me tread my path of gratitude and faithful expectations. Follow me if you would like to, I dont promise affluence or adventure, but happiness and hope are its bylaw dictates.
